THYSSENKRUPP COMPLETES CORE OF ATLANTA TEST TOWER
The concrete core of thyssenkrupp’s 420-ft-tall elevator test tower in Atlanta, which will be the highest test tower in the Western Hemisphere, was completed ahead of schedule in 57 days, the company announced on May 18. General contractor Brasfield & Gorrie performed the slip-form construction, which involves a moving formwork into which concrete is continuously poured, rising at a rate of 7 ft per day. Subcontractor Gleitbau — Salzburg provided design and engineering. Scheduled for completion in 2021 on property owned by the Braves Development Co., the tower is a key part of the Innovation and Qualification Center (IQC) and corporate headquarters that will be thyssenkrupp’s new North American headquarters. It will have 18 shafts and test elevator technology including TWIN and MULTI. Upon completion of the sale of thyssenkrupp to a consortium of Advent, Cinvin and RAG AG, ownership of the IQC and headquarters will transfer.
