Elevator Modernization Underway at Chicagoland OPHA Tower
In a letter to the editor of the Wednesday Journal of Oak Park and River Forest, Oak Park Housing Authority (OPHA) Executive Director David Pope said OPHA is currently undertaking a US$680,000 elevator modernization at Mills Park Tower (MPT), a 19-story, 198-unit public housing structure built more than 50 years ago. Pope said each of the two elevators will be taken out of service for up to 16 weeks to accommodate the work, which is “being conducted in compliance with all state and local code requirements.” He observed that MPT continuously receives capital reinvestments that have also included a new roof and façade renovation. Home to nearly 200 residents, MPT is in Oak Park, a village approximately 10 mi. from downtown Chicago.
