CUSTOM ELEVATORS PART OF HISTORIC RENOVATION IN NYC
Two new elevators built of lightweight steel in drywall shafts are part of the renovation of the turn-of-the-century, six-story Renaissance Revival building at 707 11th Avenue in NYC, a building that formerly served as a showroom for designer Kenneth Cole, the Commercial Observer reports. Originally built for piano maker Kohler & Campbell in 1901, the building is being transformed by developer SL Green into a multitenant office building. Design Republic architects went with a red, white and black color palette for the interior and commissioned street artists to create a mural. COVID-19 concerns meant changes for the sleek, black elevator system, with the incorporation of a destination-dispatch system, a larger lobby and the ability to preprogram elevators to take tenants to their floors.
