MTA SETTLES LIRR ELEVATOR LAWSUIT
The New York Daily News reported on July 14 that a federal judge recently approved a lawsuit settlement between the NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and disabled riders that requires the agency to install elevators at three Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) stations, which the source speculated “could force more future accessibility projects.” The additions to LIRR’s Amityville, Copiague and Lindenhurst stations are required to be completed by June 2023. The lawsuit also aims to mandate a timeline for the MTA to add ramps and elevators to the other MTA stations (the source estimates more than 300) that do not meet Americans With Disabilities Act requirements.
