张家界天门山是著名旅游胜地，工程建设不能破坏地表景观，因此只能通过在山体内开凿隧道，打开上升通路。但山体陡峭，地形复杂，重型机械进出困难，且隧道空间毕竟有限，自动扶梯安装又离不开机械吊装，导致整个工程的施工难度极大。

Project background:
